
Arthur “Art” McGuffey, age 85 of Fairborn, passed away Saturday July 17, 2010. He was born April 15, 1925 in Lincoln Co., Kentucky, the son of the late Walter Franklin and Laura (Privett) McGuffey. Art served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He followed as a school teacher for a few years and then was the co-founder of Roush’s Restaurant in Fairborn, retiring in 1988. Following retirement he enjoyed traveling to many destinations. He was a lifetime member of American Legion Dignam-Whitmore Post 526 and Amvets Post 444. He was also a member of the Fairborn Area Chamber of Commerce; a Kentucky Colonel; and the Wilmington College Sigma Zeta fraternity. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by three sisters, Beatrice, Buelah, and Eva; and five brothers, Albert, Claude, Robert, Manford, and Roy. He is survived by his lifetime friend, Walt Roush; a brother, Joe McGuffey and wife Melva of Panama City, Florida; two sisters-in-law, Linda and Helen McGuffey; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and many friends. A gathering of family and friends will be held on Wednesday July 21, 2010 from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M. in the Belton-Stroup Funeral Home, 422 E. Dayton-Yellow Springs Rd., Fairborn, where a funeral service will be held on Thursday July 22, 2010 at 10:00 A.M., Rev. Earl McGuffey officiating. Burial with military honors will be at 2:00 P.M. in the Rose Hill Cemetery, 171 S. Mason-Montgomery Rd., Mason, Ohio. Should friends desire, memorial contributions may be made in his memory to Wilmington College, 1870 Quaker Way, Wilmington, OH 45177.
