Gail J. Pettigrew, age 64 of Yellow Springs, passed away Saturday April 20, 2019. She was born December 15, 1954 in Red Wing, MN, the daughter of the late Quintin and Mary (Verhoeven) Pettigrew. Gail served her country in the U.S. Air Force and was the first female crew chief of a B-52 Stratofortress. She was also the first woman in the USAF to be assigned to a mobility team. Her hobbies included nature photography, playing Scrabble and Rummy, and she was an avid Minnesota Vikings fan. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Murphy; and a nephew, Hans Ira Marlette, II. Survivors include two daughters, Lux Pettigrew, Amber Younger; a son, Shawn Pettigrew; three granddaughters; a grandson; two brothers, Quintin Pettigrew, Tom Pettigrew; two sisters, Betty Jane Marlette, Carol Boudinot; as well as other extended family and many friends. A memorial service will be held on Saturday April 27, 2019 at 11:00 A.M. at the Belton-Stroup Funeral Home, 422 E. Dayton-Yellow Springs Rd., Fairborn. The family will receive friends from 10:00 A.M. until the time of service. Military Honors will be rendered at the conclusion of the memorial service.
