Our beloved mother passed away on April 11, 2026 at Hospice of Dayton. She was born on September 12, 1931, in Wiesbaden Germany, and came to the United States in 1952 as a newlywed and at the time was referred to as a German war bride. She became a naturalized citizen in 1956. Mom was preceded in death by her beloved husband Eugene (USAF CWO 4), daughter Patricia and her husband Mike Haas and their son Jonathan, along with her brothers Karl Heinz Stahlheber and Rolf Stahlheber. She is succeeded by her sons, David (Cheryl), William (Jean); daughter Florence (Greg), including five grandchildren: Katelyn (Mike Kerul), Kimberly (Ben Krebs), Lori (Bryan Borski), Kyle Deleranko, and Margaret Garetson, and nine great grandchildren. Mom was affectionately known as “Omi” (German for Grandma). Mom lived a life of devotion, love, and grace for family and all who knew her. Her remarkable faith and love sustained her throughout her life as an active member of Mary Help of Christians Church. In 1970 she and her children received an invitation from the Vatican and attended a private audience with Pope Paul VI in Rome, Italy, which was in part organized by Mary Help of Christians Church. Mom always had a servant’s heart toward volunteering at WPAFB Family Services for many years, the Base Thrift Shop for 50 years, and numerous organizations including the base CHAP program, Officer’s Wives Club, the German Liederkranz Club, Fairborn Chamber of Commerce, and Daughters of Isabella. Mom also thoroughly enjoyed working for many years at the Fairborn Holiday Inn gift shop. She loved to have German music playing in her home, reading, going to operas, plays and festivals, offering up great meals and gardening. An annual event was her garage sales with family and friends. Mom’s children want to thank the earth angels who helped her in her final years: Brigitta and Bruce Cook, Henny Thomas, Dina Taylor, Gina Leach, and Fairborn Assisted Living staff. Mom should be remembered for her love of family, friends, fashion, food and good times. A Memorial Service will be held on June 27, 2026 at the Belton-Stroup Funeral Home, 422 E. Dayton-Yellow Springs Rd, Fairborn. The family will receive friends beginning at 10 AM with a memorial service at 11 AM. The interment of her ashes will be at Arlington National Cemetery, Washington D.C. at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Dayton: OhioHospice.org.
