Obituary

Carl D. Patrick, a legendary figure in the world of motorcycle racing and a cherished family man, passed away peacefully at his home in Beavercreek, Ohio, on December 17, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. Born on May 22, 1939, in Vest, Kentucky, Carl's journey through life was marked by his dedication both to his craft and to those he loved.

A distinguished engine builder and tuner, Carl was renowned for his work on the iconic Harley-Davidson XR750 flat-track racing motorcycle. His expertise and passion for rebuilding, tuning, and maintaining these dominant race bikes made him an integral part of American flat track history. He played a pivotal role in the success of numerous champions, including Hank Scott, Joe Kopp and Nicky Hayden, and proudly owned and operated Patrick Racing and Eagle Machine and Fabrication.

Beyond his professional achievements, Carl was a calm and balanced individual, always composed under pressure and known for his reliability. He was devoted to his family, treasuring the moments spent with them. His love extended beyond his human family; he also enjoyed the companionship of his beloved dogs, Ashlee, Buster Brown, and Lucy Lou.

Carl served his country honorably in the United States Air Force, which marked the beginning of his career as a mechanic. He not only excelled in the world of motorcycles but also had a keen interest in restoring hot rods, showcasing his lifelong enthusiasm for mechanics and engineering.

Carl is survived by his devoted wife of 45 years, Sharon; a daughter, Kelly (Andy) Spangler of Centerville; and four beloved grandchildren, Dillon, London, Maddy, and Chase. He leaves behind a legacy of love, hard work, and dedication, remembered fondly by his nieces, nephews, other extended family, and many friends.

Preceded in death by his parents, Adam and Eva (Dobson) Patrick, and two sisters, Janice Lykins and Genevieve with her husband Nell Wickliffe, Carl’s memory will be cherished by all who knew him.

A funeral service will be held on Monday December 22, 2025 at 1:00 PM at the Belton-Stroup Funeral Home, 422 E. Dayton-Yellow Springs Rd., Fairborn, Pastor Jason Norman officiating.
