Charles Norman Thomas Obituary

Dr. Charles Norman Thomas was born at home in Augusta, GA to William George and Dorothy Mae Allgood Thomas on August 31, 1932. He took his last breath at his home on August 13, 2026 surrounded by family who loved him dearly. He is survived by one brother, Bill Thomas, who was nine years younger.  Charles was married for 63 years to the love of his life, Alice Mullendore Thomas, who proceeded him in death in February 2023. Charles and Alice had three children (Renee, George, and Bryan) who married wonderful spouses (Dwayne, Tonya, and Tina). They had three grandchildren (Haley who married Billy, Isabel, and Theo) and three great grandchildren (Blakely, Nash, and Hayes Charles). Family was extremely important to him. Charles graduated from Emory University, Atlanta, GA in 1954. He joined the USAF as Second Lieutenant (Medical Service Corps) in 1956. In 1958, Charles graduated from the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta, GA. He had the privilege of doing his Medical Internship at Tripler Army Hospital, Oahu, Hawaii in 1959. In 1962, he graduated from Internal Medicine Residency, Wilford Hall USAF Medical Center, San Antonio, TX. He and his wife, Alice, were stationed in Chateauroux-Deols Air Base, France where he served as Chief of Hospital Services at 7373 USAF Hospital. In 1972, he graduated from Fellowship in Cardiology, Wilford Hall USAF Medical Center, San Antonio, TX. In 1976, Charles became the Chief of Cardiology at Wright-Patterson USAF Medical Center, Fairborn, Ohio. He retired in October 1985 from the USAF as Colonel with thirty years service. Charles was very kind, smart, and generous. He had a great sense of humor and would often have his wife laughing at his comments. After he retired, he and his wife enjoyed life. Charles enjoyed collecting cameras and taking photos of nature and his grandchildren. He became the family historian as he took photographs and filled photo albums with family gatherings and events. Charles was a good provider and protector. He was committed to his wife and family. He imparted wisdom and had strong values and morals. He will be missed very much.

A private Celebration of Life Service will be held by family members.
