Obituary

Darlene (Hammonds) Kilburn age 84 of Fairborn, Ohio went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus on Wednesday August 5th, 2026 surrounded by loved ones. Darlene was born on March 21st, 1942 in Oliver Springs, Tennessee to the late Richard Brewster and Dessie (Daugherty) Hammonds. She was a beloved wife, mother, mamaw/grandma, GeeGee (great grandma) and friend. She was loved by all who knew her. And she loved her family, church family and friends so dearly.

Darlene spent her childhood growing up in Tennessee and later moved to Ohio where she lived the rest of her life. She never met a stranger and if you were ever in conversation with her, chances are she told you about Jesus and probably sang you a song. She loved writing songs about the Lord and singing them, even to people she would just meet. It made no difference where she was, if you were her waitress or cashier or someone she just met she probably told you about the Lord and how good He is. If she wasn’t at home, you would probably find her at church or Goodwill having a good time.

She attended and served at International Faith church in Fairborn for many years and in recent years also attended and served at Fairborn City Church. She lived her life loving and serving the Lord and was so joyful to tell anyone she met about Him.

She loved to laugh and just really enjoyed life. She was always up for an adventure and someone that anyone could go to for advice and she would give it to you whether it was what you wanted to hear or not. She would help anyone that she could in any way that she could. Her neighbors all loved stopping on their walks and talking with her on the porch. She made everyone feel right at home.

She enjoyed her time with her family, she was such a fun Mamaw/Grandma and GeeGee, and it was such a joy to her. From attending events for her grandkids and great grandkids to being the best living room wrestling announcer there could ever be, to playing jokes, telling jokes and teaching her grandkids about the games she played when she was little. She loved to share her stories about growing up in Tennessee and passing down the joy of simple things like sitting around breaking beans together. She made an impact on her family and all who knew her. The prayers she prayed over her family during her life will leave a lasting impact and she will forever be cherished, it was a privilege to have known and loved her.

Darlene is preceded in death by her parents, Husband Gordon (Ed) Kilburn, stepson Kenny Kilburn, Sister Anna Mae (Hammonds) Seiber, Brother Jimmy Hammonds, and dear friends Bessie Carter and Faye Claunch Fields.

She is survived by her children Darlinda (Kenny) Brown, Lisa (Tadd Woodie) Doty, Tim (Kristen) Brewer, Terry (Michelle) Schubert, Stepdaughter Connie (Roger) Brown, grandchildren Jess (Matt) Darby, Kristen (Wyatt) Lawhorn, David (Miranda Hayes) Doty, Kimberly (Jacob) Giuliano, Ryan (Kylie Ratcliff) Brewer, Kaitlin Brewer, Mandy (Allen) Hollon, Bryon (Marni) Stacy, Brandon (Brittany) Stacy, Brad Stacy, Sarah (Cole) Druck and ten great grandchildren and another on the way, her cousin Bev Stacy, her dear friend and prayer warrior Doris Duty, her dear friend Linda, as well as extended family, her church family and many special friends like family.

The family will receive friends on Thursday August 13th from 5:00pm until 7:00pm at City Church, 206 W. Dayton Yellow Springs Rd, in Fairborn. The funeral service will be held on Friday August 14th at 10:30am. Pastor Tim Walden will be officiating. Burial will follow at the Byron Cemetery.

Memorial Contributions can be made to City Church or International Faith Church, both of Fairborn.
