Dave was preceded in death by his parents, George and Vivian (Buehner) Cooper; his sister and brother-in-law, Cheryl and Mike Herbert; and his brother-in-law, Dennis Whitt.
Born on July 29, 1950, to George and Vivian (Buehner) Cooper, Dave was a proud lifelong resident of Fairborn. He graduated from Fairborn High School with the Class of 1968 before beginning a distinguished career in federal civil service at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base. Over nearly four decades, he earned the respect of his colleagues through his dedication, integrity, and unwavering work ethic before retiring in 2008 after a long and honorable career.
On October 7, 1978, Dave married the love of his life, Kathleen "Kathy" (Bundy) Cooper. Together they shared nearly 48 years of marriage, building a life centered on faith, family, and unwavering love and commitment to one another.
Dave was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather whose family was the greatest joy of his life. He is survived by his beloved wife, Kathy; his son, Jeff, and his wife, Stephanie; his daughter, Erin, and her husband, Tim Fields; his cherished grandchildren, Evelynn, Jonathan, and Vivienne; his sister, Joyce Whitt; and many beloved nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends. Nothing brought Dave greater joy than spending time with his family, especially watching his grandchildren grow.
A man of deep and abiding faith, Dave was a dedicated member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Fairborn. His faith reflected the humility, compassion, and steadfast values that guided his life.
Those who knew Dave knew they were never going to have a short conversation. Blessed with the gift of gab, he never met a stranger and could strike up a conversation with just about anyone. Whether at church, on the golf course, at the bowling alley, at Wright-Patt, or simply around town, Dave genuinely enjoyed being around people and had a remarkable ability to make everyone feel welcome. Friendly, outgoing, and quick with a smile, Dave had a way of turning everyday conversations into lasting friendships.
Dave's friendships were among life's greatest blessings. Many began during his childhood in Fairborn and endured for decades, a testament to the loyalty, kindness, and character that defined him. He believed in working hard, keeping his word, treating others with kindness and respect, and always putting his family first.
Dave had a lifelong love of sports, especially baseball, both as a player and as a fan. He enjoyed playing baseball and softball, golfing, and bowling, and he rarely passed up an opportunity to watch a game or talk sports with family and friends. Through every triumph and every disappointment, he remained a loyal supporter of the Cleveland Browns, Cincinnati Reds, Ohio State Buckeyes, and the Dayton Dragons. David's faith was evident in many parts of his life, including his lifelong belief that this might finally be the Browns' year.
Dave's legacy lives on in the family he loved, the friendships he cherished, and the countless lives he touched. He will be remembered as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, loyal friend, faithful servant, and a man whose warmth, humor, and kindness made the world a better place. Though he will be deeply missed, his love and example will remain in the hearts of all who knew him.
