Peter Bletzinger (PhD) of Fairborn Ohio passed away Thursday, March 26, 2026, at the Ohio's Hospice of Dayton. He was 96.
Peter was born to the late Erwin and Agnes Bletzinger in Stuttgart, Germany. Peter immigrated to the United States and started working for the Defense Department as part of a government program called Project Paperclip. Peter was among a trio of German bachelors living in Yellow Springs. During a trip to Mexico he met his future wife Irmgard. They were married in Mexico, settled in Fairborn, and raised four children on 18 acres as a gentleman farmer. Peter received his PhD in Electronics and Electro Optics Engineering at the University of Stuttgart in 1966. He worked in the Propulsion Laboratory for over 40 years publishing numerous papers for scientific journals and forming life long friendships with his fellow scientists. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Fairborn and served as a deacon for a number of years.
Peter is survived by four children and their spouses: Michael and Diane Bletzinger, Klaus-Peter Bletzinger and Pattie Matteis, Christine and Robert Cooper and Eric and Tami Bletzinger. He was blessed with 10 grandchildren and one great-grand daughter.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM, Wednesday, April 1, 2026, at the First Presbyterian Church of Fairborn, 1130 Highview Drive, Fairborn, OH, 45324. The family will receive visitors from 10:00 AM until the time of service, Pastor Stan officiating. Burial to follow at the Glen Forest Cemetery, Yellow Springs, OH. Arrangements in care of Belton-Stroup Funeral Home, Fairborn, OH.
