Emily G. Ellithorp

August 5, 1950 — December 24, 2025

Fairborn, OH

Emily "Jill" Ellithorp, aged 75 of Fairborn, OH, passed away Wednesday December 24, 2025. Jill was born August 5, 1950, in Shelbyville, TN, to the late Isaac "Red" and Ellawene “Edie” (Allison) Bateman, and was raised in Fairborn, Ohio.

A keen love for fine arts and a desire to expand her skills took Jill to Sinclair College, where she earned a degree in Fine Arts. Second to art, was a passion for U.S. history, that took her from the cradle of New England, to the states that suffered the devastation of civil war. Throughout her life, she embraced her passion for art and history, often immersing herself in experiences during her travels. Along for the ride were Jill's children, and then her grandchildren, who soon shared her fondness for visiting historic sites that provided the opportunity to explore rich narratives. Gettysburg, Monticello, Antietam, Mount Vernon and, of course, historic Ohio, are a small example of her travels. Museums were always a must see, and spontaneous detours to museums, zoos, and other public sites always brought a deeper vision and knowledge that enriched her life and the lives of those around her.

Jill's personality was characterized by a loving and adventurous nature, and a recognizable laugh that endeared her to friends and family alike. She found great joy in spending time in Yellow Springs, Ohio, where her love for the community and its surrounding nature blossomed. An enthusiast of Celtic art, she appreciated the beauty and intricacies of different cultures and artistic expressions.

Emily took particular pride in her family, and looked upon her children and grandchildren as her proudest accomplishments. She cherished the moments spent with her parents, and often referred to their home as the hangout. Her warm-hearted demeanor extended beyond her family to include beloved pets that enriched her life; among them were two cherished cats named Sob and Beeb.

Emily Jill Ellithorp will be dearly remembered for her adventurous spirit, her love of history, and the indelible mark she left on the hearts of her family and friends. Her legacy of curiosity, creativity, and kindness will continue to inspire all who knew her.

Jill is preceded in death by her parents, Issac "Red" Bateman and Ellawene "Edie" (Allison) Bateman; devoted husband of 36 years, John D. Ellithorp; and brother-in-law, Ernest Hilgeman. She is survived by two daughters, Tonya (John) Haley, Tasha Craft; three grandchildren, Erin (Micah), Ian, Sean (Erin); four great-grandchildren, Jasper, Opal, Ruby, Sophie; two stepdaughters, Deanna Senger and Tammy Pierson; two siblings, Candy Hilgeman and Thomas (Suncha) Bateman; nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, feline companions, and dear friends.

A celebration will be held at a later date. Arrangements in care of Belton-Stroup Funeral Home, Fairborn, OH.
