Emma Jane (Morgan) Powell

Dec 28, 1948 — Oct 31, 2026

Springfield, OH

Emma Jane (Morgan) Powell, 77 of Springfield, OH.

It is with heavy hearts that we announce that our beloved mother, Emma Jane (Morgan) Powell has gone Home to be with the Lord. Emma passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 31, 2026, at Springfield Regional Hospital.

Emma was born in Chattanooga, TN on December 28, 1948, the daughter of the late Robert Lee and Rose Mary (Burnett) Morgan.

Raised in Springfield, OH, she moved to Huntington, WV in 1978 where she was employed with Mildred Mitchell Bateman Hospital, formerly Huntington State Hospital, where she retired in 2003 after 25 years of service.

Emma had 4 daughters that she raised by herself and sacrificed so much to be certain they had everything they needed. She loved to make people laugh with the silly little things she would say and do. She never met a stranger and would do what she could for anyone. She was a long-time donor to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital and the American Kidney Foundation. She had the biggest, most selfless heart.

We used to love the stories she would tell us about the hospital. Some extremely funny, some, extremely sad. There is so much to write about this extraordinary woman but there is not enough words, time, or paper.

She was loved by all who knew her.

Left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Barbara (Keith) Storms, of New Carlisle, OH, Jane Warren of Darlington, SC, Katrina Legg of Huntington, WV, and Melissa (Michael) Barefoot of Darlington, SC.
4 Grandchildren-Ashley (Josh) Colegrove, Wesley Williams, Jayden Barefoot, and Will Barefoot.
7 Great grandchildren- Adelyn, Aaliyah, Mason, Evan, August, Gavin and the newest, 2-week-old Torrhen.
1 Great-great-grandchild - Hayes. 2 sisters, Debbie (Bob) Keeton and Wanda Cassidy and 1 brother-in-law, Floyd Amburgy.
2 very special long-time friends, Doug Artrip of Huntington, WV and Linda Pyles of Springfield, OH., and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other friends.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Frank and Russell Morgan, her sisters, Bonnie Amburgy, Wilma (Jean) Brewer, and infants, Betty and Rachel Morgan, 2 grandchildren Cody Storms and Jeremy Risner. 1 great-grandchild, Aalanah Williams, a son-in-law, Mark Legg, ex-husband and father of her children, Donald Powell and her special pets, Rosie, Lassie and Izzy.
