Esmer “Essie” Tackis (93 - residing in Pompano Beach, FL) entered eternal peace on May 1, 2025. She was the wife of Constandinous “Charlie” Tackis (d. May 3, 2002). Essie was born in Nestorville, West Virginia, then grew up in Belington, WV. She was the fifth of six children.
Essie was a devoted wife, mother, and community servant. Her life epitomized service to God, family, and the communities she lived in. In 1984 she served a two-year term to finish out the four-year term of a vacant Fairborn City Council seat. In 1988 she was elected to another four-year term and unanimously elected Deputy Mayor by the council. In 1992 she was elected Mayor and then was re-elected to a second term. She continued her community service by accepting a five-year staff position with the Honorable David Lee Hobson, former member of the U.S. House of Representatives, 7th District. Essie even broke a glass ceiling by becoming the first female President of the Fairborn Rotary Club; she was an honoree in the 1981-2002 Greene County Women’s Hall of Fame; and most recently was an honoree for the “Legends of Fairborn” award in 2020 by the Fairborn Area Historical Society.
Essies is survived by her daughter Susan Elayne and sons John Eric, Michael Aaron, and Scott Allen. Essie and her husband Charlie had a wonderful marriage lasting forty-seven years
A Celebration of Life event to honor Essie will be held at the Senior Center in Fairborn, OH on Saturday, May 17th from 1pm- 4pm for friends and relatives. We encourage everyone to share their stories and memories of Essie. A private [Family Only] interment will be held at the Byron Cemetery and Mausoleum in Greene County (Fairborn), OH earlier that day. Rest in peace Mom!
In lieu of flowers, Essie respectfully requested a Memorial Gift be made, in her honor, to benefit the Fairborn Rotary Club, Fairborn Senior Center, or to the pending “ESSIE & CHARLIE TACKIS FOUNDATION FUND” planned for GoFundMe: https://gofund.me/63caa932. The foundation is planned to support Ohio families that lack financial resources to provide private in-home healthcare for pre-hospice/hospice family patients.
