Estelene Mae Carter

Estelene Mae Carter, aged 94 of Fairborn, OH, passed away, Wednesday, December 17, 2025. She was born May 11, 1931, in Highland County, OH, the daughter of the late Everett and Dessie (Stroud) Shaffer.

Estelene exemplified a life of devotion to family and community, leaving behind a legacy that cherished the bonds of love and service.

A native of Highland County, Estelene was known for her warm heart and unwavering commitment to the well-being of others. She volunteered at the Five-Points school in Fairborn for many years, where she shared her love for children and education. Her dedication did not go unnoticed; she received several awards honoring her selfless contributions, which included assisting with field trips and supporting the school's library. Estelene's spirit of service enriched the lives of those she encountered, inspiring students and fellow volunteers alike.

Family was at the center of Estelene’s life, with fond memories of long car trips creating cherished moments with loved ones. One particularly notable journey was the drive to Oklahoma, filled with laughter and adventure. Estelene enjoyed returning to her hometown area, where she could reconnect with her roots and relish the simple pleasures, such as her beloved pastime of picking mushrooms.

In addition to her community involvement, Estelene had a variety of hobbies that brought her joy. She found solace in watching old westerns and wrestling and cherished the thrill of driving her treasured four-barrel Cadillac, which her family fondly admired. Furthermore, she enjoyed fishing with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She often played 500 rum and completed cross word puzzles even in her later years.

Estelene was especially proud of the strong relationships she nurtured with her family. Her daughter, grandchildren and great-granddaughter provided her extraordinary support in her later years, with her grandchildren walking hundreds of miles each month to ensure she had what she needed, whether it was companionship, medication, or groceries. Her daughter also played a crucial role in her care, demonstrating the deep connections and love woven through their family.

Estelene Mae Carter’s life was a testament to the importance of family and the joy of giving back to the community. She will be remembered for her kindness, her dedication, and the loving memories she created with those fortunate enough to know her.

In addition to her parents, Estelene is preceded in death by her husband, and siblings. She is survived by four children; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren, extended family, and close friends.

She will be laid to rest with her late husband in the Methodist Cemetery, Samantha, Highland County, Ohio, later. Arrangements in care of Belton-Stroup Funeral Home, OH.
