US Army LTC (Ret.) Garry D. Duvall, passed away peacefully on May 10, 2025, in Carmel, Indiana, at the age of 77. Born on November 12, 1947, in Little Sandy, Kentucky, Garry lived a life rich with purpose, dedication, and love. His journey was marked by a profound commitment to his family, his faith, and his country.
Garry served honorably in the United States Army as a Medical Logistics Officer during Vietnam and Desert Storm, culminating in a distinguished retirement at the rank of Lieutenant Colonel in 1994. His military service laid a foundation of leadership and integrity that he carried with him into civilian life. Following his time in uniform, he dedicated many years to civil service, retiring in 2012 following a combined 41 years of federal service. Throughout his career, Garry exemplified the values of duty and service, earning the respect and admiration of all who worked with him.
When time allowed Garry enjoyed golfing and he could often be found under the sun, club in hand, sharing laughter and camaraderie with friends on the green. He was also a lifelong learner, taking great pleasure in reading, always seeking new knowledge and understanding. A true news junkie, Garry was engaged with the world around him, often sharing his insights and opinions, which sparked lively discussions with friends and family.
Garry's life was a tapestry woven with threads of faith and community. His steadfast belief in God guided him, offering comfort during life's challenges and inspiring those fortunate enough to know him. He touched many lives with his kindness, wisdom, and the gentle demeanor that characterized his interactions.
Garry is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Pat; two children, Rebecca (Marty) Johnson of Carmel, IN, David (Danielle) Duvall of Wake Forest, NC; seven grandchildren, Mitch, Olivia, and Matthew Johnson, Garrison, Alexandra, Gabriella, and Oliver Duvall; a sister, Lynda Carlene (Jeff) Jones of Beavercreek, Randall Duvall of Fairborn; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and other extended family, who will forever cherish his memory and the values he instilled in them. His legacy of faith and service will live on in the hearts of those who loved him.
A visitation to celebrate Garry’s life will be held on May 16, 2025, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM, followed by a funeral service at 1:00 PM, at Belton-Stroup Funeral Home located at 422 E. Dayton-Yellow Springs Rd., Fairborn, Ohio, 45324. Friends, family, and all whose lives were enriched by Garry are welcome to come together to honor a remarkable man who devoted his life to serving others, embracing every moment with grace and gratitude. Burial with military honors will follow at the Byron Cemetery.
