Gary L. Walton, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on July 11, 2025, in his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born on June 13, 1942, in Cannell City, Kentucky, the son of the late Earl and Lavodis (Nickell) Walton.
He enjoyed a fulfilling career that began with NCR, followed by a successful tenure as a machinist at Sheffield Corporation, where he dedicated many years of hard work before retiring. His skills extended beyond the workplace; he was a talented wood maker and finish carpenter, remembered for crafting exquisite furniture pieces that will be cherished by his family.
A man of diverse interests, Gary loved spending time with his family and was an avid supporter of the Fairborn Skyhawks sports teams. His passion for the game was evident as he lent his time coaching youth football and baseball, instilling a love for sports in young athletes. His hobbies included playing guitar, golfing, fishing, and playing softball, which reflected his vibrant spirit and love for life. He was a longtime member of the Byron Church. Gary was also a loyal fan of the Cincinnati Reds and The Ohio State football team.
Gary is survived by his beloved wife of 63 years, Louise, and their three children: James (Lisa Johnson) Walton, Robin (Paul) Crichton, and Sonya (Brad) Walker. He was a proud grandfather to eight grandchildren: Evan (Bailey), Katie (Devin), Trevor (Emily), Anna-Claire (Dolan Hoeft), Connor, Kyle, Benjamin, and Lauren. His legacy also includes three siblings: Don Walton, Beverly (Paul) Zigmond, and Sharon (Jim) Osborne. Gary's beloved dog, Sassy, was also a cherished part of his life.

Visitation for Gary will be held on July 17, 2025, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Belton- Stroup Funeral Home, 422 E. Dayton-Yellow Springs Rd., Fairborn. A funeral service will be held on Friday July 18, 2025 at 11:00 AM at the Byron Church, 3230 Trebein Rd., Fairborn, Rev. H. Wesley Barnhill officiating. The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM until the time of service. Gary will be laid to rest at Byron Cemetery Mausoleum. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to the Byron Church.
Gary L. Walton will be remembered for his warm heart, dedication to family, and the many lives he touched throughout his journey.
