Jim devoted over three decades of his life to teaching, shaping generations of students through his career with Fairborn City Schools. Many students fondly remember him as Mr. Goins, a passionate teacher who made a lasting impact in nearly every public-school building within the district throughout his tenure.
Jim’s commitment to education was mirrored by his own academic journey. He earned his bachelor's degree from Eastern Kentucky University (EKU) and further advanced his knowledge by obtaining a master's degree from the University of Dayton (UD). Beyond the classroom, Jim was deeply involved in athletics, proudly coaching boys and girls basketball, tennis, and football for Fairborn City Schools. His leadership extended beyond sport, enriching the community through his support and encouragement of student athletes.
Jim was known for his warmth and generosity, particularly in his role as a family man. He and his beloved wife shared a passion for traveling and exploring national parks during summer vacations. Their adventures created cherished memories that underscored their lifelong partnership. In addition, Jim found joy in fishing, whether in peaceful solitude or with friends, and had a deep appreciation for the outdoors.
A welcoming host, Jim’s home was the heart of family gatherings, especially during cherished holidays such as Christmas, Thanksgiving, and Easter. His familiar phrase, "there is always room for one more," epitomized his inclusive spirit and the joy he found in bringing loved ones together.
Jim was also a proud and devoted long-time member of Christ Episcopal Church in Xenia, OH, where his faith and community involvement were cornerstones of his life.
Family, students, and colleagues remember Jim as a great educator who loved his students and valued his family above all. His legacy as an inspiring teacher and coach remains deeply woven into the fabric of the Fairborn community.
