Jeanne J. (Griever) Hyder, a most beloved mother, grandmother, aunt and friend, passed away on October 13, 2025, in Fairborn, Ohio. Jeanne was born in Puckett’s Creek, Pennington Gap, VA on January 23, 1945. She graduated from Fairborn High School in 1963.
Jeanne married the love of her life, Jim, in 1964 and lost him far too early, in 1980. They were an amazing couple and had a lifetime full of plans and dreams that were not to be realized. She loved “her Jim” fully and faithfully every day for the last 45 years as though he had never left. It was an undying love and a true statement of faith to the vows they took 62 years ago.
Jeanne was a dedicated employee of Huber Heights City Schools; her career spanning 28 years in Personnel. She had a very strong work ethic and was always praised for being kind, helpful and truly caring about what she did; something that she was known for outside of her career as well.
Jeanne loved to cook, garden, decorate and spend time with her friends and family. Being a grandmother was a role she absolutely cherished. If you met her, you heard about her grandson. She was an incredible artist and was extremely creative. She had an amazing sense of humor and was very strong in her faith. She had the kindest soul and was a most faithful friend. She had friendships that were fresh and new and friendships that spanned decades. Regardless of where you fell in those groups, you were guaranteed to have a loyal friend for life. She loved with her whole heart.
She was a class act. She loved her children beyond measure and was so very proud of them. She loved her grandson even more, and to say she was proud of him is an understatement. She was a coal miner’s daughter. She was proud of and nostalgic for her Appalachian childhood; she missed and longed for the simplicity of it for all her life.
She was special. She was a light in our lives, and will always hold a special place in our hearts.
Jeanne is survived by her devoted daughter Jennifer (Steve) McCullough, her adored grandson, Gabriel McCullough, and a host of very special nieces, nephews, cousins and friends who will forever carry her memory in their hearts.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Lem and Lola (Parsons) Griever; eight siblings; Vadith (Saleeby), Charles, Glen, Bob, Don, Dexter, Jerry and Beverly (Johnson); and her beloved husband, James E. Hyder; her cherished son, James M. ‘Jamie’ Hyder and her parents-in-law, James H. and Mary (Latos) Hyder.
