Patrick “Dan” Daniel LaPrairie, aged 65 of Fairborn, OH, passed away, Sunday, July 19, 2026. He was born on September 27, 1960, in Greene County, OH, the son of Henry M. LaPrairie and Patricia A. (Johnson).
Dan grew up in Fairborn and attended Fairborn City Schools. His mother remembers him as a joyful and pleasant child, always seen playing with friends all around the neighborhood.
Dan spent much of his working life as a house painter. He took pride in his work and, in recent years, could be found bringing color and care to homes and businesses as part of KRK Painting LLC in Xenia, OH. Those who worked with him knew he was quiet, but kindness came naturally to him, and he respected anyone willing to put in a solid day’s work.
Outside of work, Dan had a few things that made life bright. He absolutely loved WWE wrestling, especially the wild days from the 80s and 90s, and he always had a good story to share about the old matches. Bass fishing was another passion—he could reel in stories as well as he could bass. He also had an appreciation for Native American-inspired wildlife décor and Southwestern pieces—he especially loved anything with wolves or eagles, filling his home with the spirit of the wild.
But above everything, Dan’s greatest source of pride and happiness was always his family. He loved his children and grandchildren dearly, always making sure they knew how important they were to him. His mother also held a special place in his heart throughout his life.
Dan had a quiet way about him, putting people at ease and showing his care through actions rather than words. Though he may no longer be with us, the memories he leaves behind will continue to bring comfort, warmth, and the occasional laugh to all who loved him.
Dan is preceded in death by his father, Henry LaPrairie; brother, Thomas LaPrairie; Nicholas’s mother, Jennifer Kurowski; and daughter-in-law, Brandi Zoller. He is survived by his beloved mother, Patricia “Pat” Day; three sons, Benjamin “Ben” LaPrairie, Christopher “Chris” LaPrairie, Nicholas “Nick” (Alyxandria) LaPrairie; stepdaughter, Angela Kurowski; two grandchildren, Aliyah LaPrairie, Sebastien LaPrairie; four siblings, Henry (Julie) LaPrairie, Michael LaPrairie, Tonya Jacobs, Joseph (Tabitha) LaPrairie; eleven nieces & nephews, as well as great-nieces & great-nephews, extended family, and dear friends.
A funeral service will be held at 10:30AM, Saturday, July 25, 2026, at the Belton-Stroup Funeral Home, 422 E. Dayton-Yellow Springs Road, Fairborn, OH, 45324. The family will receive visitors from 9:30AM until the time of service. Burial to follow at the Byron Cemetery, Fairborn, OH.
