Richard Lee “Rick” Sams, aged 74, of Springfield, OH, passed away, Wednesday, February 11, 2026. He was born, August 3, 1951, in Parkersburg, WV, the son of the late, William Arthur and June Eleanor (Balderson) Sams.
Rick led a life marked by hard work, holding various blue-collar jobs throughout his career, but his true legacy lies in the love and care he provided for his family.
He was a wonderful, caring, and loving man who always showed up when it mattered most. His sons could always count on him as a father should, embodying the values of dedication and support. As a proud father and grandfather, Rick took great pride in his family, celebrating the joys of life with his two sons and all his grandchildren. He was deeply involved in their lives, creating lasting memories that will be cherished.
As an avid enthusiast, Rick loved spending time outdoors. He was an honorary member at the Ol' Fashioned Rod and Gun Club, where he enjoyed fishing and sharing moments with friends, not to mention his love for throwing darts. Rick had a passion for hunting, particularly mushroom hunting for morels, and embraced every opportunity to engage with nature.
Furthermore, to his outdoor pursuits, Rick was known for his enthusiasm for sports, being a passionate Cincinnati Bengals fan. He also enjoyed watching NASCAR and football, sharing these interests with those around him.
In addition to his parents, Rick is preceded in death by a brother, Terry Sams. He is survived by his two sons, Jonathon (Courtney Casto) Sams, Joshua Sams; five grandchildren, Gage Casto, Gavin Sams, June Sams, Betty Sams, and one on the way; six brothers, Bill Sams, Marvin Sams, Dave (Butch) Sams, Steve Sams, Tim Sams, and Ronnie Sams; extended family, and friends.
A funeral service will be held at 12:00 PM, NOON, Thursday, February 19, 2026, at the Belton-Stroup Funeral Home, 422 E. Dayton-Yellow Springs, Fairborn, OH, 45324. The family will receive visitors from 11:00 AM until the time of service, Pastor Eric D. Meade officiating. Burial to follow at the Byron Cemetery, Fairborn, OH. Arrangements in care of Belton-Stroup Funeral Home, Fairborn, OH.
