Ruby Gaynell (Thacker) Badillo, born on January 29, 1941, in Grundy, Virginia, passed away peacefully on August 27, 2025, at the Hospice of Dayton. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, whose life touched many with her kindness and caring nature.
Ruby's professional journey began with a decade-long career as a nurse, where she dedicated herself to caring for others. Afterward, she transitioned to a successful role as a financial advisor with Primerica Financial, where she spent over 20 years until her retirement. Her enthusiasm for helping others extended beyond her career; she held a deep love for plants and flowers, often nurturing vibrant gardens. Ruby was also known for her compassion towards animals, frequently taking in stray creatures and feeding them.
In her personal life, Ruby cherished quality time spent with her family. She loved to cook and sew, creating lasting memories around the dinner table and with handmade gifts. Traveling brought her joy, and she made it a priority to spend precious moments with her children and grandchildren. When her health permitted, attending church was an important aspect of her life that brought her peace and connection.
She is survived by her loving husband of 54 years, Bruno Badillo; their four children, Lowell Keeton of Fairborn, Tina (Rick) Stamper of Fort Walton Beach, FL, Doran (Cindy) Vail of Fort Walton Beach, FL, and Amanda (Heith) Perry of Fairborn. Ruby was also the proud grandmother of six grandchildren—Brandon, Dakota, Samantha, Jennifer, Teyha, and Isabella—and had several great-grandchildren who brought her immense joy.
Ruby is also survived by her sisters, Judy (Bennie) Hobson, Oma Gail Hackney, Rita Sue (Larry) Barrett, Hazel (Earl) Hunt, Linda (Melvin) Thompson, and her brother, James (Joann) Thacker. She leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, and a wide circle of extended family and friends who will remember her warmth.
Ruby was preceded in death by her parents, Mandy and Verlin Hackney, and Theodore and Nora Thacker; a sister, Joanne Oney; brother-in-law, James Oney; and brother Willie Lee “Billy” Thacker.
Ruby will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. Her vibrant spirit and dedication to family and community will forever remain in the hearts of those she left behind.
Visitation will be held at Belton-Stroup Funeral Home, 422 E. Dayton-Yellow Springs Rd., in Fairborn, on Saturday August 30, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, followed by a funeral service beginning at 11:00 AM, Pastor Steve Nickels officiating.
