Thomas E. Massie, a beloved educator and devoted family man, passed away peacefully on July 30,2025, in his home, surrounded by his family. He was born on April 20, 1951, in Troy, Ohio, the son of the late Roger and Jeanne (Smick) Massie.
Thomas was a proud alumni of Troy High School and Bowling Green State University, furthering his education by obtaining a master's degree from the University of Dayton. Tom dedicated his life to teaching, inspiring countless young minds throughout his 35-year career at Fairborn High School. His commitment to education extended beyond the classroom; coaching high school football for an impressive 52 years, sharing his passion for the sport and mentoring young athletes along the way. In his free time, Tom was known for his love of fishing.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his father and mother-in-law, Jim and Shirley Zink; two brothers-in-law, Doug Zink, Rick Smallwood. He is survived by his cherished wife of 47 years, Debbie; son, Troy Massie; daughter, Jillian Massie (Gary Hill). Tom took great joy in being a grandfather to his two granddaughters, Adyson Butcher and Olivia Hill. He is also survived by three sisters, Mary Ann Massie, Susan (Bill) Liddy, Beth Smallwood; as well as nieces, nephews, extended family, and many friends who will miss him dearly.
Visitation will be held on Sunday August 3, 2025, from 2:00 PM until 5:00 PM at the Belton Stroup Funeral Home, 422 E. Dayton-Yellow Springs Rd., Fairborn. A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Monday August 4, 2025, at 10:00 AM, Mary Help of Christians Catholic Church, 954 North Maple Ave, Fairborn. Burial will follow at Byron Cemetery.
