USAF CMSgt. (Ret.) Charles Randolph Thomas, Sr. of Fairborn, Ohio, passed away on January 4, 2026, at the age of 89. Born on July 23, 1936, in Whitman, West Virginia, he dedicated much of his life to serving his country and his community.

Charles proudly served in the U.S. Air Force, where he earned the rank of Chief Master Sergeant, retiring after a distinguished career. Following his military service, he continued to contribute to the nation as a civil servant at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, completing nearly 50 years of combined federal service before retiring in 2003.

A devout member of the Wright-Patterson AFB Chapel Community, Charles found joy in worship and fellowship. Before his health declined, he actively participated as an usher and lent his voice to the male chorus, sharing his love of music and community with all who knew him.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 68 years, June; his three children, Charles Randolph Thomas, Jr. and wife Beverley of Belleville, New Jersey, Deirdre Marie Thomas of Dayton, and Efrem Shawn Thomas and wife Hileria of Dayton. He leaves behind six cherished grandchildren: Nathaniel, Sydney, Marcus, Taylor, Shia, and Abrielle; as well as three great-grandchildren: Avery, Atlas, and Jamari. Additionally, Charles is survived by two brothers, Leon Thomas and wife Barbara Jean of Gary, Indiana, and Ernest Thomas of Canton, Ohio, along with a host of nieces, nephews, and extended family.

In addition to his parents, Charles was preceded in death by a brother, Joseph, and two sisters, Carol Sue Rouse and Mattie Jean Donaldson.

Charles Randolph Thomas, Sr. will be remembered for his unwavering service, deep commitment to family, and the warmth he brought to all those around him. His legacy of dedication and kindness will live on in the hearts of his loved ones.

Family and friends are invited to gather for visitation on January 21, 2026, from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM, followed by a funeral service at 12:00 PM at Kingdom Purpose Church at Fairborn United Methodist Church, located at 100 N. Broad St., Fairborn, Ohio, 45324, Pastor Marcus Branch officiating, eulogy by Pastor Perry Irby. Burial with full military honors will follow at the Dayton National Cemetery.  

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
