USAF Lt. Col. (Ret.) Richard James Karvosky

USAF Lt. Col. (Ret.) Richard “Rick” James Karvosky, aged 74 of Fairfield Township, OH, passed away peacefully, in the comfort of home, Wednesday, July 29, 2026. He was born February 27, 1952, in Bridgeport, CT, the son of the late Edmund P. and Rita V. (Esposito) Karvosky.

A proud graduate of the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, CO, Rick began his distinguished career in the United States Air Force in 1973. Over the course of 20 years, he rose to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel, an achievement that reflected his dedication, leadership, and professionalism. His service to his country was a source of great pride and defined much of his life, earning him the respect of colleagues and the gratitude of his nation.

Described by those who knew him as funny, hardworking, and deeply devoted to his family, Richard approached every aspect of his life with commitment and good humor. Beyond his impressive professional accomplishments, he cherished his role as a father and grandfather, holding profound pride in his two daughters and all his grandchildren. His love extended as well to his many pets throughout his life, providing companionship and joy.

A proud Catholic, Rick's faith was a guiding force, shaping his values and offering strength throughout his journey. He was known for his integrity, and for the warmth he brought to every relationship—whether among family, friends, or his extended military community.

Family, friendship, military service, and faith were the cornerstones of Rick’s life. His legacy is one of patriotism, kindness, and steadfast dedication to all that he loved.

In addition to his parents, Rick is preceded in death by his sister-in-law, Beth; and numerous beloved pets. He is survived by two devoted daughters, Jennifer, Kristen; two grandsons, Dominic, Richard; two granddaughters, Mia, Ciara; one great-granddaughter, Launna; three brothers, Tom, Ed, Ron; extended family, and dear friends.

A Funeral Mass will be held at 2:00 PM, Wednesday, August 5, 2026, at the Prairies Chapel Bldg. 682 (formerly Page Manor 3) 6568 Chapel Lane, Riverside, OH, 45433. The family will receive visitors from 12:00 PM, NOON, until the time of Mass, Fr. Rory Pitstick, celebrant.

Graveside service with U.S. Air Force honors, 9:00 AM, Friday, August 7, 2026, at the Dayton National Cemetery, 4400 W. Third Street, Dayton OH, 45428. Funeral procession will begin lining up at 8:15 AM at Belton-Stroup Funeral Home, 422 E. Dayton-Yellow Springs Road, Fairborn, OH, 45324, to depart promptly at 8:30 AM for the National Cemetery.
