Wilber Roger Lacy

Wilber Roger Lacy, born on December 10, 1950, in Detroit, Michigan, passed away peacefully on August 22, 2025, in his home surrounded by his loving family. He will be remembered as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and a man of many talents and passions.

Roger served his country in the U.S. Air Force and then followed with employment as an electronic technician at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, his professional journey was marked by dedication, integrity, and a passion for technology, retiring after 47 years of combined service.

A member of Victory Church, Roger took on the role of Sunday School teacher for 3rd and 4th grade boys, giving knowledge and values to the younger generation with warmth and care. His faith was an integral part of his life, guiding him through both challenges and triumphs.

Roger was an avid outdoorsman and lifelong learner. He enjoyed skiing, ice skating, ice hockey, camping, shooting, music, reading and could often be found learning new topics with curiosity and enthusiasm. Family and friends will remember his quick wit, generous heart, and uncanny ability to fix just about anything, even if it took forever. He had a knack for making even the mundane fun and could pullout a relevant, or delightfully random fact, for any occasion.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 43 years, Doretta; two daughters, Cheryl (Jeff) Spang and Jennifer (David) Gilbert; five grandchildren: Avery Spang, Luke Gilbert, A.J. Spang, Silas Gilbert, and Aliyah Gilbert, whom he adored; and two sisters, Debra (Randy) Bell and Karen (Clint) Monroe. He was preceded in death by his parents, Wilber A. and Roselene (Abernathy) Lacy, and his sister, Gale (Bill) Doufexis.

A visitation will be held on August 26, 2025, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Victory Church, 2443 Valle Greene Drive, Fairborn, where a funeral service will be held on Wednesday August 27, 2025, at 11:00 AM, Pastor Derek Trenum officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at Byron Cemetery. The family would like to thank Jordan, Ashray, and the rest of staff of Care360 Hospice for their care and compassion.
