Winifred Jane Hiler, age 86 of the Mt. Sterling, Ky area, residing near family in Greene County Ohio for the past several years, passed away Sunday February 26, 2023 at Fox Run Sr Living in Enon. She was born May 26, 1936 in Montgomery Co., Ky, the daughter of the late Roy and Edna Mae (Woosley) Barker.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Jerry Morton Hiler in 2018; daughters, Karen Gail and Vicki Lynn; a grandson, Nicholas Moretz; two brothers, Donnie and Tommy; and three sisters, Dorothy Mehaffey, Alice Nickoson, and Sue Iker. Survivors include two daughters, Debbie Crocker and husband Jeff of Land O Lakes, Florida, Kim Moretz and husband Paul of Yellow Springs, OH; three grandchildren, Christina (Tommy) Super, Lynne (Steven) Clemente, Christopher Rike; six great-grandchildren, Alana, Jimmy, Aiden, Steven, Wyatt, Ezekiel; a great great-granddaughter, Luella; two sisters, Betty Jo Tipton and Phyllis Turner; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other extended family, and friends.
She was a truly amazing, strong, compassionate, unselfish and quick witted woman, loving wife, mother, mother-in-law, sister, aunt, daughter and friend to many and her presence will be sorely missed.
Jane grew up in Mt Sterling, the oldest of eight children of Mae and Roy Barker. She graduated high school at Camargo and fell for a future patriot named Jerry (Mort) Hiler. They spent the next 20 years having four children and living in eight states, England, and Germany due to the enlistment of Jerry in the Air Force. Jane was the glue…packing every two years, setting up a new household, getting Jerry off to work in crisp fatigues and the girls off to a new school…with lunches packed and dresses ironed every single day. Dinner at five every day at the dinner table was how she grounded the family with the girls cleaning the kitchen while she relaxed with Jerry. It was a simple special life and while Jerry served our country and ended up giving his life for it, Jane served the country along with him as the wind beneath his wings. We also know the tough times experienced and intermingled in those years have found no place in memory in her new glorious life promised to her by our lord Jesus Christ and she is united with Jesus. May she rest in peace knowing her life had meaning and her influence will carry on through the generations they birthed.
