Beryl C. McCloud

Beryl C. McCloud, age 84 of Fairborn, passed away Sunday April 30, 2023 at the Miami Valley Hospital South.  He was born October 20, 1938 in Mt. Hope, WV, the son of the late Tennessee Taylor and Juanita (Tanner) McCloud. 

Beryl served his country in the US Army as a Green Beret; and followed with a career in law enforcement that included 30 years with the Fairborn Police Department, continuing for 12 years as Chief of the South Charleston P.D., and concluded with Security Police at Wright-Patterson AFB, retiring after a close to 50-year career protecting and serving the communities in which he was employed.

He was an avid musician and played bass anytime friends and family were making music.  Other hobbies included pitching horseshoes, fishing, and being a Bengals, Reds, and Buckeyes fan; and he was a member of American Legion Post 526 and FOP New City Lodge # 48, both in Fairborn.  Above all else was his love for his family and friends, and he enjoyed attending all the family events that he could. 

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by seven brothers, Bryce, Edwin, Lonnie, Ernie, Ralph, Gene, and Clyde.  Survivors include his wife of 37 years. Mabel; two sons, Mark (Sharon) McCloud, Kevin (Kristie) McCloud; three stepsons, Sam (Julie) Benge, Rick Benge, Robert (Tammy) Benge; 16 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; a brother, Max (Phyllis) McCloud; his loyal K-9 son, Buddy; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other extended family, and many friends.

A funeral service will be held on Monday May 8, 2023 at 12:00 noon at the Belton-Stroup Funeral Home, 422 E. Dayton-Yellow Springs Rd., Fairborn, Bruce Hoffman officiating.  The family will receive friends from 10:30 A.M. until the time of service at the funeral home.  Burial with military honors will follow at the Byron Cemetery.
