Helen L. (Bird) Stroup

Helen L. (Bird) Stroup, passed away on Friday April 2, 2021 at the age of 100.  She died peacefully under hospice care surrounded by family.  

Helen was born January 15, 1921 in Lapel, Indiana, the daughter of the late Loral V. and Greta V. (Busby) Bird.  Her family relocated to Frankfort when she was young and she remained a resident for most of her life until moving to Palatine, Illinois, near her daughter and family for the last 20 plus years.  A 1938 graduate of Frankfort High School, she followed with employment first at Indiana Brass for a short time and then in the trust department at Farmers Bank until retirement.  She enjoyed participating in a ceramics class for many years and a book review club.  An avid sports fan, she rarely missed a Chicago Cubs televised game or college basketball game.  

A lady with quick wit and class, she was always a willing participant in any shenanigans brought on by her family members and friends.  She always enjoyed a good laugh and her sense of humor will live on in all who knew and loved her.  Helen’s family was most important to her and she always welcomed visitors into her home and loved to travel and visit family spread out all over the country.  

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John F. Stroup in 1978; an infant daughter, Nancy Stroup; grandson, Kevin Stroup; two brothers, John Bird, Neal Bird; and a sister, Margaret Prather.  

Survivors include five children, John F., II (Carolyn) Stroup of Lawrenceburg, IN, Thomas E. Stroup of San Antonio, TX, Margy (Steve) Brehmer of Palatine, IL; Robert P. (Angie) Stroup of Bringhurst, IN, William N. (Lynne) Stroup of Redington Shores. FL and Munds Park, AZ; as well as numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and other extended family.

A graveside service will be held on Saturday April 10, 2021 at 11:00 A.M. at the Green Lawn Cemetery, 496 W. Co. Rd. 200 S., Frankfort.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Humane Society of Clinton County, 825 Izaak Walton Dr., Frankfort, IN 46041.
