Howard Albert Lewis Leist, age 89 of Fairborn passed away Wednesday August 16, 2023 at the Soin Medical Center surrounded by his loving family. He was born August 21, 1933 in Cincinnati, the son of Howard V. and Ida (Roeller) Leist. Howard served his country in the U.S. Army and followed with employment with the Clark Co. Health Department. He was an active and participating member of the Eastern Star and Masonic Lodge 421, Yellow Springs; served as Past Master and then as secretary for 25 years; and also was involved with the Greenon Booster Club, coached Enon Little League and Enon Girls’ softball and played ball as well. In his retirement, Howard enjoyed spending his Winters in Florida where he attended Toby's Clown School. He enjoyed attending events as Notes the Clown, making balloon animals and making everyone smile. Howard is survived by his devoted wife of 70 years, Mary Lou; three children, Kathy (Wayne) Quarls, Scott (Sandi) Leist, David (Debbie) Leist; 12 grandchildren, Heather, Stacie, Jeremy, Sarah, Adam, Amanda, Aaron, Kyle, Austin, Mandy, Travis, Meghan; blessed with many great-grandchildren; brothers, Ricky (Geri) Foster, Ronald Leist; sister, Linda Leist; as well as extended family and friends. A visitation will be held on Wednesday August 23, 2023 from 5:00 until 7:00 P.M. with a Masonic service at 7 at the Belton-Stroup Funeral Home, 422 E. Dayton-Yellow Springs Rd., Fairborn, where a funeral will be held on Thursday August 24, 2023 at 10:00 A.M., Rev. Katie Peterson-Madden officiating. Burial will follow at the Enon Cemetery.
