James E. “Bud” Nickell, age 83 of Richmond, KY, went to be with the Lord on Thursday May 13, 2021 at his home.  He was born March 3, 1938 in Cannel City, KY, the son of the late William Greenberry and Ora (Haney) Nickell.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife of 43 years, Patsy (Williams) Nickell; brothers, Emsel, Denzil/Nell, Ventis, Edsel/Della Nickell; sisters, Lavodis/Earl (Bud) Walton, Lillian/Ralph Perkins, Loredith/Garland Rudd, Catherine/Harry Ferry; and a brother-in-law, Bill McPherson.

He is survived by his wife, Rita of Richmond, KY; sister, Elizabeth McPherson of Fairborn; son, Steve/Susan Nickell of Kettering; daughter, Lisa Nickell of Huber Heights; stepson, Lucas/Crystal Martin of Richmond, KY; grandchildren, Tadd Woodie/Lisa Doty of Fairborn, Eric Nickell/Jodi Medlin of Springboro, Jessica/Kyle Day of Huber Heights, Nick McGowan of Huber Heights; Daniel Waker of Kettering, Alex Martin of Richmond, KY; great-grandchildren; Tanner and Laura Woodie of Fairborn; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and other extended family.

Bud served his country proudly in the U.S. Army.  Following his military service he was employed with Chrysler Air Temp, retiring after 30 years of service.  He also was employed as a barber for 25 of those 30 years.

He loved watching youth baseball and was a fixture at Fairborn Little League for many years watching his grandkids play many sports.  A gifted storyteller, he also loved bluegrass music, and working around the home, and he enjoyed everything about classic cars.  First and foremost was his love for his family, giving and caring for them, and could often be found visiting with those he loved.
